Neonatal calf diarrhoea is the most common calf disease and the most common cause of death in calves before weaning. Diarrhoea leads to metabolic acidosis and dehydration, which are life threatening conditions and should be treated as soon as possible.
Formulated by expert veterinarians and is based on years of national and international research into calf scour1, Vitalife has been developed to specifically target acidosis, as it has a high buffering capacity and is most effective in correcting acidosis within 24 hours. It has a uniquely high Strong Ion Difference (SID) concentration, which is a measure of its ability to neutralise build-up of acid in the blood. Because of its clinically proven2 superior efficacy, only 2 treatments with Vitalife are required to normalise the blood pH and correct the acidosis, which will lead to recovery.

Instructions
The updated protocol can now be tailored to the severity of the disease. For calves with scour that are still able to drink, you can mix Vitalife with milk, and for those severe scour cases Vitalife can be mixed with water and given orally to the calf.
Mild Case
Diarrhoeic calf still willing
and able to drink
Mix half a pot of Vitalife powder in two litres of warm milk or water and administer to the calf via a teat bucket or bottle. Repeat the procedure 12 hours later.
Severe Case
Diarrhoeic calf unwilling
and unable to drink
Mix a full pot of Vitalife powder in two litres of warm water only and administer to the calf via orogastric (oesophageal) feeding tube. Repeat the procedure 12 hours later. Do not exceed recommended dose rate.
Mild Case
Diarrhoeic calf still willing
and able to drink
Mix half scoop of Vitalife powder in two litres of warm milk or water and administer to the calf via a teat bucket or bottle. Repeat the procedure 12 hours later. Use the scoop provided.

FAQ
How is it different to what is already on the market?
Not all electrolytes are the same. Vitalife for Calves® was formulated by expert veterinarians, using the newest research finding to develop the unique formulation. Vitalife has the highest strong ion difference (SID) value on the market, which gives it its supreme ability to correct acidosis within 24 hours. Most electrolytes will have a SID value below 100 mmol/l, whereas Vitalife for Calves® has a SID of 228 mmol/l.
How does Vitalife for Calves® work?
In almost all calf scour cases, both acidosis and dehydration are present. Our product was created to overcome both at the same time. This means that it facilitates the absorption of excess hydrogen ions that accumulate due to the scour and returns the blood pH to its normal value, and with the additional fluids and electrolytes it rehydrates the animal at the same time. Additionally, Vitalife contains Vitamin E to reduce oxidative damage at a cellular level.
What is acidosis?
Most calves with scour will develop metabolic acidosis, which is a condition defined by a decreased pH of the blood. It is a serious condition, causing the calf to get very sick and can ultimately lead to death. Therefore it is crucial to treat this as soon as possible.
Should I continue feeding milk to my calf while it has scour?
Yes, offer milk to the calf at feeding time and ensure it has easy access to fresh drinking water all the time.
The calf won't drink the solution. What can I do?
With its improved palatability, calves are more likely to voluntarily drink Vitalife for Calves® (mixed with milk). However, if a calf is very sick, it will lose its ability to stand up and drink itself, even if Vitalife is mixed with milk. In those cases the calf will need to be given Vitalife mixed in water via an orogastric tube (stomach tube). If the calf continues to be very sick, veterinary assistance will be required.
Do I need a prescription from my vet for this product?
No prescription is required. Vitalife for Calves® is only available online, and is sold directly to farmers.
